The policy,\u00a0introduced by May as Home Secretary in 2012, had proved extremely detrimental to Britain\u2019s popularity as a reputed global education destination.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s3\">The recent reversal should<\/span><span class=\"s3\"> open opportunities for Britain\u2019s universities to attract the best talent from across the world, while positive news comes from Europe&#8217;s best institute for social sciences, the prestigious<\/span><span class=\"s3\">\u00a0London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) that announced a new LSE-India programme to provide fresh opportunities for Indian students and academia.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"s3\">The new programme, announced recently in New Delhi will draw together the different strands of LSE\u2019s work with India, increase participation of Indian students at the School in London by providing more scholarships and research-teaching exchange programmes.<br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p4\"><span class=\"s3\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-1852 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/globalindianstories.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/LSE-300x158.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"346\" height=\"182\" srcset=\"https:\/\/globalindianstories.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/LSE-300x158.jpeg 300w, https:\/\/globalindianstories.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/LSE.jpeg 310w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 346px) 100vw, 346px\" \/>The idea is to\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"s3\">promote a \u2018leadership programme\u2019 of activities and events for Indian students at the School and\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"s3\">support new courses on Indian economics, politics and society. Through\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"s3\">field visits to India by student groups and faculty, the course will be designed to encourage visits and research-stays at LSE by faculty from India and vice versa.<br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p4\"><span class=\"s3\">All of these activities will be supported by an LSE-India fund. LSE\u2019s new School of Public Policy, established to train the decision-makers of tomorrow, will play an integral part in the programme, equipping Indian students to be future leaders.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"s6\">LSE has traditionally been a choice for Indian talent since it\u2019s inception in 1895 with significant Indian figures like Dr BR Ambedkar and several leading Indian leaders and corporates as alumni. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"s6\">The collaboration will open up huge opportunities for many like <\/span><span class=\"s7\">Anuj<\/span><span class=\"s8\">\u00a0Kejriwal, a Management student and\u00a0President of LSE SU India Forum, who came to study in LSE to take back his learnings to his home country. \u201cThis new programme &#8211; especially with the new courses on Indian economics \u2013 will give students the opportunity to go to LSE, look at London and the UK, see how they work and bring those experiences back home to India. I know eventually I want to make a difference in India. This programme will allow me to mix my London life and my India life together,\u201d he said. <\/span><span class=\"s7\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_1850\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1850\" style=\"width: 216px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-1850\" src=\"https:\/\/globalindianstories.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/Minouche-Shafik-LSE-Director-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"216\" height=\"216\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-1850\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Dame Minouche Shafik, Director, LSE<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p class=\"p8\"><span class=\"s5\"><span class=\"s3\"><span class=\"s9\">In a statement to the press, Dame Minouche Shafik, Director of LSE said <\/span>\u201cThe LSE-India programme reaffirms our partnership and commitment to India and will ensure the relationship between the School and India continues to develop and flourish. With over 60 faculty members conducting research on India and around 300 students from India currently at LSE, the programme will provide further exciting opportunities for students and academics.\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p8\"><span class=\"s5\">She\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"s5\">travelled to India earlier this week for <\/span><span class=\"s3\">high-profile meetings with academics and policymakers to promote LSE\u2019s work in India and establish new relationships. <\/span><span class=\"s5\">She met with <\/span><span class=\"s3\">Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"s5\">and chaired research conferences on the economic growth in India, in New Delhi. <\/span><span class=\"s6\">She flew to Mumbai on the 11 September to give <\/span><span class=\"s3\">a public lecture on rethinking social contracts for the 21<sup>st<\/sup>\u00a0century and meet with alumni.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>The Indian alumni is both excited and positive about the course. Yug Bhansali, an Economic student was happy that the LSE India programme would provide a platform for \u201cthe brightest minds in India, students and professors alike, to combine resources with LSE and contribute further to academics and build future leaders.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p8\"><span class=\"s3\">Management student Jahnvi Jhaveri said the LSE India programme was a great initiative. \u201cBeing an LSE student, I take\u00a0pride in how much it (LSE]) has taught me over the last two years and how it has been a huge part in shaping my life.
