It is meant to encourage them to love them.<br \/>\n&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;<\/em><\/p>\n<p>I heard the crows scream out quite loud<br \/>\nAnd ran outside to see,<br \/>\nThere lay on the grass in our Mumbai backyard<br \/>\nTiny balls of three!<\/p>\n<p>It was early hours, we were barely awake<br \/>\nBut the cries were loud so we rushed off our beds<\/p>\n<p>Shriya, my ward, just all of four, was passionate like a bee<br \/>\nShe raced the steps with all her might<br \/>\nTo shoo the crows away,<br \/>\nAnd while they tried to attack her too<br \/>\nShe braced herself and stayed.<\/p>\n<p>I threw her a towel from our third floor flat<br \/>\nAnd asked her to cover them up.<br \/>\nWe thought they&#8217;d be but small bird chicks,<br \/>\nThat fell from the trees above.<\/p>\n<p>Shriya went close and stood quite still,<br \/>\nSurprised at what she saw.<br \/>\nThree tiny squirrel heads with their fluffy tails,<br \/>\nAll wrapped up in a ball!<\/p>\n<p>I gently bend down to pick them up<br \/>\nWhile Ira my eldest, grabbed a cardboard box.<br \/>\nShe knew the drill, just all at six,<br \/>\nOn how to rescue and love<\/p>\n<p>Gently we picked up all the three,<br \/>\nOnly one but stirred to my touch&#8230;<br \/>\nAnd carried them inside to a safe place<br \/>\nWhile the crows kept circling us.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-4842\" src=\"https:\/\/globalindianstories.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/squirrel-5455395_640-300x199.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"199\" srcset=\"https:\/\/globalindianstories.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/squirrel-5455395_640-300x199.jpg 300w, https:\/\/globalindianstories.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/squirrel-5455395_640-634x420.jpg 634w, https:\/\/globalindianstories.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/squirrel-5455395_640.jpg 640w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>We got some water in a dipper<br \/>\nAnd tried to feed them some,<br \/>\nOnly one responded with quick gulps,<br \/>\nWhile the other two stayed quite numb.<\/p>\n<p>The girls cried when they thought the worst<br \/>\nSaying it was their fault!!<br \/>\n&#8220;It must&#8217;ve been the crows,&#8221;
